The Poultney Pub is a neighborhood restaurant disguised as a bar in the heart of downtown Poultney, Vermont. Located at the intersection of Main Street and the D&H Rail Trail, our pub is the Stone Valley’s spot to gather for local food and libations. The restaurant offers a casual, inviting atmosphere to enjoy rustic pub-fare, creative cocktails, regional craft brews and live tunes. HOST – PART-TIME

Are you a highly organized communicator who thrives on keeping things moving? The Poultney Pub is looking for a sharp, detail-oriented Host to join our team. We need someone who can manage the "puzzle" of a busy dining room while maintaining clear communication between our guests, servers, and kitchen—all while providing a professional and welcoming first impression.

What We're Looking For:

  • A strong communicator who can direct the flow of the restaurant with confidence and a welcoming presence.

  • Someone who is naturally organization-driven and can track multiple moving parts—waitlists, reservations, and table rotations—to ensure a successful service.

  • A proactive team player who serves as the vital link between the front door and the kitchen, ensuring that seating pace aligns with both service and kitchen capacity.

  • An individual with a true "Command Center" mentality who anticipates the needs of the entire team—assisting with table resets and floor momentum before being asked.

  • A reliable and punctual professional who understands that the success of the shift starts with being on time and prepared.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage Floor Logistics: Strategically coordinate seating—balancing guest requests with kitchen capacity and server rotations to ensure a smooth service.

  • Coordinate Communication: Manage the reservation system, handle phone inquiries, and accurately process to-go orders to ensure seamless timing for both our dine-in and takeout guests.

  • Welcome and Inform: Provide a positive  first impression for our guests, staying knowledgeable on our daily specials, live music schedule, and rotating beer menus to answer questions confidently.

  • Maintain Room Momentum: Proactively assist with clearing and resetting tables to keep the floor moving efficiently and reduce guest wait times.

  • Technical Support: Assist with real-time updates to our Point of Sale (POS) system, ensuring our digital menus and specials buttons remain accurate throughout the shift.

SCHEDULE & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Shift Times: Tuesday-Thursday shifts begin at 4:00 PM; Friday and Saturday shifts begin between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

  • Qualifications: Must be 16+ with reliable transportation. Being 18+ and eligible for a Vermont liquor certification is an advantage for this role.

SERVER – PART-TIME

What We're Looking For:

  • Reliability and schedule flexibility. Candidates should be available for 3–4 shifts per week during peak season, and 2–3 shifts per week during the remainder of the year.

  • Provide exceptional and attentive service to our guests, making them feel like valued regulars.

  • Maintain a clean and organized dining area, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Must be able to obtain a Vermont DLC (Dining and Lodging Certificate) upon hiring.

  • Must have reliable transportation.

  • Tuesday through Thursday availability is highly preferred.

  • Friday and Saturday availability is required for all members of our team.

  • Weekday shifts begin at 4:00 PM; weekend shifts begin between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

LINE COOK – PART-TIME

Poultney Pub is seeking a dedicated Line Cook to join our team; someone who is an effective and capable communicator, handles station prep with ease, and ensures quality and consistency in every dish. If you are a team player who maintains a clean workspace, works with a sense of urgency, and takes pride in a job well done, we want to hear from you.

This is a year-round position that offers a great opportunity for an eager individual looking to start their culinary career, or seasoned cook. We are fully prepared to train the right person.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Manage Your Station: Handle station prep and produce menu items to order with consistency and speed.

  • Ensure Quality: Maintain high standards for food quality and presentation during busy service windows.

  • Stay Organized: Keep a clean, efficient workspace and contribute to the overall organization of the kitchen.

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a hot, noisy environment.

  • Reliability: Dependable transportation and availability to work as late as 11:00 PM regularly.

KITCHEN CREW MEMBER – PART-TIME

Poultney Pub is hiring a Kitchen Crew Member. This is a hands-on, behind-the-scenes role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in keeping operations running smoothly. It can be a great stepping stone for someone looking to learn and grow in the hospitality industry—potentially working their way up to cooking on the line—or a stable, consistent position for someone who enjoys dependable work as part of a supportive, well established environment. We are looking for dedicated part-time employees to join us long-term, with potential opportunities to expand your hours or role in the future if desired.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Wash Dishes and Equipment: Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, cookware, and utensils to keep the kitchen operating efficiently.

  • Assist with Food Prep: Support the kitchen crew with basic prep tasks such as weighing, preparing, and assembling ingredients.

  • Maintain a Clean Kitchen: Keep workstations, prep areas, and storage spaces clean, organized, and stocked.

  • Support the Team: Help with additional tasks as needed to to help the crew navigate a fast-paced service.

HOURS & SCHEDULE:

  • Availability: Friday & Saturday required; Tuesday–Thursday availability is a major plus for extra hours as needed.

  • Start times are flexible and may vary based on scheduling needs and availability.

  • Shifts typically end between 10:00–11:00 pm, depending on business volume.

  • Potential for training, advancement, and long-term employment.
